Better Aid

• Establish AusAID as a separate department and create a cabinet level minister for international development.

• Increase the share of Australian aid funding going to the poorest countries in our region.

• Improve the transparency and accountability of the aid program by providing up-to-date information about all funded aid activities.

More Aid

• Increase the planned rate of growth of the aid program and commit to 0.7% of GNI in aid.

• Establish a Robin Hood Tax – a 0.05% levy on international currency transactions.

• Ensure assistance for climate change is additional to ODA funding of 0.7%

• Announce an extra $100 million p.a. in funding for the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.

Global Leadership for Development

• Put the MDG on the agenda for the G20 for the G20 by writing to the current chair of the G20 (Prime Minister of Canada).

• Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott to commit to attend the UN High Level meeting on the MDGs in September, and lead the creation of an urgent action plan to achieve the MDGs.

• Continue encouraging the acceleration of the Doha trade round negotiations with a focus on trade access for the poorest nations.
