What if I can’t afford it?

This is a movement for everyone. If coming on the road trip is impossible for cost reasons, then you can apply for one of our many full or half scholarships.

There are over 75 half scholarships and 15 full scholarships available and these will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated need. Please only apply for a scholarship if you cannot otherwise participate.

What if I’m under 18?

The road trip is open to young people aged 16 -26. If you are under the age of 18 you can participate with your parents consent. A few things your parents might be relieved to know:

  • The Road Trip is entirely alcohol, drug and smoking free.
  • Sleeping arrangements are organized such that boys are split from girls, and over 18s are split from under 18s.
  • All Ambassadors will be in a group with 9 other young people, lead by a trained group leader who will provide for the groups pastoral care, welfare and support.
  • We’ve done this before and have a developed a strong set of policies and practices to ensure that everything goes smoothly. In 2007 we took 700 young people aged 16 – 26 on a road trip for 7 days to Sydney and in 2005 we took 200 young people to Canberra.
  • A parents information pack is being developed and will be available soon. To be notified when this is available or to ask any other questions please email parents.roadtrip@theoaktree.org

What will happen on the actual road trip?

First check out this video from our last roadtrip, showing some of the highlights.

  • Hear firsthand accounts of poverty, development and the challenges being faced in the developing world.
