Make Poverty History is part of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty involving about 80 countries that aims to end the injustice of poverty. It is the largest anti-poverty movement in history.
In Australia, Make Poverty History is a coalition of more than 60 aid agencies, community groups and religious organisations.
The Make Poverty History Road Trip is an initiative of the Make Poverty History Coalition - leading organisations from across the NGO and Community sectors are uniting to make sure that 2010 is a turning point in the fight to end extreme poverty.
2010 is critical for so many reasons. Ten years after Australia stood with every other national leader in the world and pledged to end poverty by 2015 (thereby creating the Millennium Development Goals), time is running out. This year the world will review the progress of the Millennium Development Goals, at a special international summit in New York in September. Combine this with an election year in Australia and it's pretty obvious that 2010 is a critical point in the fight to end poverty!
Though the Road Trip is an initiative lead by the whole coalition, individual organisations that are taking the lead deserve a mention. This includes:
The Australian Council for International Development (ACFID)
